Participants will enrich their ballet training under the skillful eye of some of the finest artists in the profession. BYU’s Summer Ballet Intensives offer experience in artistic training, including ballet technique, pointe and variations, character, jazz, and modern dance. Activities and discussions in conditioning, nutrition, and injury prevention will complement the two weeks of dance instruction. Each dancer will receive individual feedback and personal evaluations to improve artistic and technical development. Two weeks of instruction and rehearsal culminate in a final performance that showcases each dancer’s talents and what has been learned.

  • Individual attention and evaluation
  • Professional training
  • Final performance
  • Closing recognition banquet
  • Beautiful mountain scenery
  • Wholesome campus recreation
  • Friendships with ballet artists of high moral standards

Suzi Wood

Suzi Wood

Director Suzi Wood comes from Los Angeles, Calif., and was trained under Natalie Claire, receiving a full Ford Foundation Scholarship to the School of American Ballet in New York City when she was 15. She danced professionally with Ballet West while also attending the University of Utah, and later received her B.S. in elementary education from Brigham Young University. Upon graduation she was invited to be on the ballet faculty at BYU. Suzi and her musician husband Rob founded and for eight years directed the Studio for the Performing Arts in Fallon, Nevada, teaching ballet and music and directing community companies. She then was invited to direct the Aspen (Colorado) Ballet School for six years. It became the official school for the Aspen Ballet Company, now the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet. Since moving to Utah, Suzi has taught for many private studios and Utah Regional Ballet. She has taught all levels of ballet at BYU, including variations and pointe classes as well as assisting with theatre ballet. She is currently the artistic director of the Ballet Showcase Company.

Selected instructors from BYU's outstanding dance faculty will teach at both workshops.
